In the book The Race to the Dan, Aaron states:
"In February 1781 the greatest retreat in the American Revolution played out with British and American armies dueling across the Carolinas in a 230-mile chase."

"In magnificent maneuvers regaled even by his enemies, Nathanael Greene's ragged and destitute American Army crossed the Dan River on waiting boats ahead of the British."

"After finding safety as well as needed reinforcements and supplies in Virginia, Greene's strengthened army recrossed the Dan to engage British General Cornwallis."

"The consequences of The Race to the Dan were monumental and had Greene's army been defeated along the way, the results would have changed the course of history like no other Revolutionary War event."
