The town of Leverano, from which the wine takes its name, is situated in the southern part of the Salento to the southwest of Lecce. Salento is the south-eastern extremity of Italy, a sub-peninsula of the main Italian peninsula, sometimes described as the "heel" of the Italian "boot". It is within the administrative area of Apulia (Puglia).

The peninsula is also known as Terra di Lecce, and in ancient times was called variously Iapygia, Messapia, Calbria, and Salentina.

In addition to producing a wine of ancient lineage, the community offers artistic treasures and superb panoramas of lush and interminable vineyards and greenhouses in which flowers are cultivated.
