Parsons-Bruce Art Association announces two new classes for children. Art in Poetry & Stories originally scheduled for June 19, 20, 21 and 22 in The Prizery art studio is being delayed and will be rescheduled. Check back here later for the new dates. The young students will create masks, puppets and arts based on fun poems and children's stories. Your child will be able to act out the stories using the props for weeks to come! Teacher is Krista Skelton, an artist and a local public-school art teacher. Children ages 5 and 6 attend 9:30-10:15 a.m. Children ages 7 and older attend 10:30-11:30 a.m. The cost is $30 for children of Parsons-Bruce members and $35 for non-members. The National Tobacco Ball Returns Dinner and Dancing to the Nelson Riddle Orchestra with Christopher Riddle. From 6:30 to 11 p.m. in the Banquet Hall. Painted benches, shrimp & filet seated-dinner by Cooper’s Landing , open bar, clips from vintage movies showing the National Tobacco Festival parades. Vintage clothing encouraged.
Southern Heritage Harvest Festival Saturday, September 30. Southern Heritage Exhibits at The Prizery from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The Prizery is home to the Southern Heritage Festival, an event celebrating the multicultural heritage of our community and region which focuses on trades, customs, accomplishments, traditions, transportation, food, music, craftsmanship and entertainment. Artisans, exhibitors, and musicians will set up their displays, vehicles, instruments, work spaces, and equipment. The Prizery will be filled with the festive sounds and sights of the region’s heritage. During the day visitors can tour the exhibits celebrating southern history in and around the historic tobacco warehouse. The Prizery will house a variety of exhibits including quilting, honeymaking, woodworking, pottery, stained glass, rug hooking, crocheting, basketweaving, homemade soap, blacksmithing and much more. Visitors of young and old alike will enjoy the musical background while viewing the exhibits and artisans at work. ![]() The Dan River Basin is home to many artisans in many mediums. Eleven potters with roots in the Basin wish to share their creative expressions in clay. They wish to share a history of pottery in the Basin, where they draw their creative force from, explain the techniques involved, and experiences that bring to you functional as well as decorative clay pieces. There will be creations in various forms of stoneware, Raku, and PMC. Come step into the intangible place of our creative spirits and see the physical results. The Prizery has been host to some exciting gatherings and will continue to have an impact on the community’s economy and tourism, offering both residents and tourists an opportunity to learn about the area’s history and providing cultural, educational, and recreational programs for citizens.
