Then enters Halifax County 5 mile east of Milton. They were the last troops to cross the Dan. 5:12 AM - Greene writes to Williams "All our troops are over and the stage is clear" |

Major Hardman has posted his party in readiness on this [the south] side, and the infantry and artillery are posted on the other, and I am ready to receive and give you a hearty welcome."
By 8 PM Lee's horsemen arrived and began crossing. Less than an hour after Lee's last boat crosses O'Hara arrived at the river to find his enemies all safe on the far side. Greene rests his men "enjoying wholesome and abundant supplies of food in the rich and friendly county of Halifax" |
