Knight Fellowship at Stanford University. Among the places he has led writing workshops are the Poynter Institute of Media Studies, the National Writers Workshop, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and Brown University.

Carbone has been recognized as an expert on the life of Nathanael Greene by the Rhode Island Historical Society, the New England Association of City and Town Clerks, the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, the University Club of Providence, and Brown University's Pembroke Club, all of which have asked him to lecture about Greene. He also appeared on cable television to discuss Greene's life; Carbone is willing and able to continue promoting his work on Nathanael Greene through book signings, lectures, and media appearances.

In writing about Nathanael Greene, Carbone drew on his 25 years of research experience as a newspaper reporter to ferret out facts about Greene that have never appeared in any previous biography about this overlooked hero of the American Revolution.

In writing Greene: A Biography of the American Revolution, Carbone has blended his research and reporting skills with a writing talent honed by study with some of America's best contemporary fiction writers: the late Andre Dubus at Bradford College, where Carbone earned an associate arts degree; John Yount at the University of New Hampshire, where Carbone earned his Bachelor's degree; and Tobias Wolff at Stanford University.

Throughout his career Carbone has used the techniques of the fiction writer to write accurate, compelling non-fiction that resonates with readers. Much of the Greene biography was published in serial form in the Providence Journal, with installments that ran daily from May till mid-July; the book is currently being represented before publishing houses by RLR Associates, a Manhattan literary agency.
